ROSE ZUZETTE DE LEON, ryan de torres
Philippine Journal of Nursing, 2021
Student nurses must be competently prepared to address the rising human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) epidemic in the Philippines. This article presents the development and effect of the online HIV Prevention and Care Training (HPCT) program for student nurses. The Iowa Model-Revised guided the development of the program. Literature review, student and faculty engagements, advocate participation, resources and protocol assessment, and pre-HPCT survey analysis were systematically performed to determine the contents and delivery of the program. The participants were 2nd and 3rd year level student nurses who were asked to answer the pre-and post-HPCT online surveys containing sociodemographic, HIV knowledge, attitudes, and perceived practices, and program evaluation questionnaires. Descriptive and inferential statistics were performed using SPSS version 23. Student nurses in the post-HPCT survey obtained significantly higher HIV knowledge scale mean scores (mean=18.22, SD=4.138) than those in the pre-HPCT survey (mean=15.01, SD=4.069) (p=.000). Pre-to post-HPCT survey revealed significant decreases in the proportions of student nurses who agreed on the following: HIV-positive patients should not be put in rooms with other patients when admitted to hospital (44.3%, 31.6%; p=.004); the need to worry about putting family and friends at risk of contracting the disease when caring for a person with HIV/AIDS (39.7%, 26.4%; p=.002); and healthcare workers are worried of getting HIV/AIDS from caring for a person with HIV/AIDS in their work environment (47.2%, 37.5%; p=.011). Significantly, more student nurses in the post-HPCT survey agreed in all the items of the HIV practice scale than those in the pre-HPCT survey. The online HPCT program was acceptable with beneficial effects on student nurses' HIV knowledge, attitudes, and perceived practices. There is a need to highlight basic HIV concepts and integrate HIV developments in the education of student nurses.

The articles were from 2010-2020 taken from different websites and documents from libraries of Hokkaido University of Education and Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College. The results showed blended learning started three decades ago, specifically for higher education institutions (HEIs), also used in graduate programs and professional development. But in 2007, in the Philippines, the Center of Blended Learning started and had very positive responses from the parents and students. Moreover, blended learning (BL) is adopted in subjects like English explicitly in Language, Science, and Distance Learning. The use of BL in education helps students engage positively in all activities and increased behavior towards learning, and empowered to become leaders, coaches, and mentors to fellow students. Teachers, as necessary instruments for effective implementation of BL, the conduct of profe...

esearch Knowledge Transfer in the Nursing Education Colleges of two Selected State Universities in Luzon (Philippines)
jonalyn esco
Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research), 2023
This study sought to examine the research knowledge transfer at two conveniently sampled state universities located north and south of the National Capital Region through the Knowledge Transfer Theory. After conducting a five-part online survey distributed through Google Forms to a total of 39 volunteer respondents from nursing programs (33 from School A and six from School B), the data revealed that knowledge transfer in both schools suffered attrition from knowledge of research to leading a research team and that self-reported knowledge of research must be further qualified. It is recommended that the ontology of research transferred in nursing programs must also be reexamined to advance research knowledge that leads to greater action within and outside state universities.

Archives of Osteoporosis
This narrative review summarises ongoing challenges and progress in the care and prevention of fragility fractures across the Asia Pacific region since mid-2019. The approaches taken could inform development of national bone health improvement Road Maps to be implemented at scale during the United Nations 'Decade of Healthy Ageing'. Purpose This narrative review summarises recent studies that characterise the burden of fragility fractures, current care gaps and quality improvement initiatives intended to improve the care and prevention of fragility fractures across the Asia Pacific region. Methods The review focuses on published studies, reports and quality improvement initiatives undertaken during the period July 2019 to May 2022. Results Epidemiological studies conducted in countries and regions throughout Asia Pacific highlight the current and projected increasing burden of fragility fractures. Recent studies and reports document a persistent and pervasive post-fracture care gap among people who have sustained fragility fractures. Global initiatives developed by the Fragility Fracture Network and International Osteoporosis Foundation have gained significant momentum in the Asia Pacific region, despite the disruption caused by the COVID-pandemic. The Asia Pacific Fragility Fracture Alliance has developed educational resources including a Hip Fracture Registry Toolbox and a Primary Care Physician Education Toolkit. The Asia Pacific Osteoporosis and Fragility Fractures Society-a new section of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association-is working to engage orthopaedic surgeons across the region in the care and prevention of fragility fractures. The Asia Pacific Consortium on Osteoporosis developed a framework to support national clinical guidelines development groups. Considerable activity at the national level is evident in many countries across the region. Conclusion Development and implementation of national Road Maps informed by the findings of this review are urgently required to respond to the epidemiological emergency posed by fragility fractures during the United Nations 'Decade of Healthy Ageing'.

michiko oguro
International Journal of Medical Education, 2020
Objectives: This study aimed to qualitatively analyze the experiences and perceptions of students at a nursing college in Japan who studied abroad in Asia and North America, thereby identifying the full range of benefits of study abroad programs for Japanese nursing students. Methods: We conducted a qualitative analysis of the reflection papers and free-response questionnaire items completed by 50 Japanese undergraduate nursing students who participated in 9 study abroad programs in Asia and North America. Content analysis of the data proceeded from typological and deductive to data-driven and inductive, recursively and collaboratively. Results: The results reveal perceived benefits in the areas of English language proficiency and motivation; knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare systems, and global health; cultural awareness and sensitivity; and various types of identity development (second-language motivation and identity, national/ethnic identity, professional identity, identity as a global citizen, and personal growth). It was also shown that students' perceptions of what they learned or gained varied according to the specific characteristics of each study abroad program. Conclusions: Study abroad experiences are often critical turning points that enhance nursing students' identity formation in the context of multiple and overlapping communities of practice. They also enhance core elements of the educational mission of a nursing college, particularly relating to liberal arts and internationalization. These findings can inform the development of assessment tools to be used in conjunction with study abroad programs at nursing colleges.

Telenursing: A Viable Nursing Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic
Jerick Tabudlo
Philippine Journal of Nursing, 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has put the delivery of vital health and nursing services uniquely challenged. Restrictions in social mobility, fear of contraction, and risks of transmission posed by this pandemic prompted healthcare institutions to deliver health care services remotely using information and telecommunications technologies, also known as telehealth. Telenursing is one of the components of telehealth. Although there are several strides in the use of nursing-related technologies in the country, telenursing is not a mainstream nursing service. Exploring telenursing and articulating the roles of nurses in this care delivery model is imperative given the current paradigm shift to telehealth and telemedicine in the healthcare system. This article provides a context for telenursing use in the local setting by providing factors affecting its implementation. A literature search was conducted to identify the benefits, challenges, requirements, competencies, activities, and outcomes of telenursing. Despite the limitations posed by this pandemic, telenursing offers a viable, cost-effective, and patient-centered approach in health services delivery. The implications in nursing practice, education, and research are explained.
